Softball Recap: Poly Bears vs. Temescal Canyon Titans

Poly waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with 22 straight wins... but they left with 23. They beat the Temescal Canyon Titans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-2. That's more bragging rights for Poly, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Miranda De Nava spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 12 consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Katelyn Cortez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with a home run. Maddy Cortez was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

On Temescal Canyon's side, they also let their pitcher toss all nine innings and she was also dialed-in: Jessenia Moore gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. Those nine innings set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Natalie Castro was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Poly pushed their record up to 24-1-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Temescal Canyon, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-7.

Poly will head out on the road to square off against Valley View at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Valley View: 2.9, Poly: 1.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Temescal Canyon, they will be playing at home against Heritage at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Temescal Canyon is facing Heritage at the right time seeing as Heritage is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
