Basketball Recap: Mary Walker Takes a Loss

Mary Walker played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 98-54 loss at the hands of the Wellpinit Redskins. The Chargers were down 83-43 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Mary Walker's loss came despite strong showings from Andru Pinyan and Z'Andre Barker. Pinyan went 7 for 11 on his way to 21 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, while Barker posted nine points and five assists. Pinyan is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Neil Benninger, who put up nine points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Mary Walker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Mary Walker dropped their record down to 2-3 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Wellpinit, the victory (which was their 20th in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0.

Mary Walker will take on Chesterton Academy of Notre Dame in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wellpinit, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-71 win against Almira-Coulee-Hartline on the 14th.
