Baseball Recap: Saugus' Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Saugus's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They never let the Winthrop Vikings get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Sachems as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Danny Zeits made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Saugus is 2-1 when Zeits allows two or fewer hits, but 3-7 otherwise. Zeits was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nathan Soroko was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

Saugus' win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Winthrop, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Saugus will welcome Lynn Classical at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Sachems 3.3, the Rams 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Winthrop, they will face off against Whittier RVT at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
