Football Recap: Widefield Takes a Loss

After soaring to 31 points the game before, Widefield was a bit more limited in their matchup on Saturday. They were beaten by the Mesa Ridge Grizzlies 41-0. The Gladiators were not able to make up for their loss to the Grizzlies from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Zariack Duran threw for 103 yards on nine of 18 attempts. Brody Gizzi was his top target, picking up 54 receiving yards.

Widefield has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Mesa Ridge, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Widefield will square off against Falcon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Gladiators will be up against the Falcons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mesa Ridge, they will take on Pueblo West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cyclones will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
