Preview: Cedar Key Sharks vs. Bronson Eagles
The Cedar Key Sharks and the Bronson Eagles will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Cedar Key and 12 for Bronson.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Cedar Key, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 47-30 loss to Saint Francis Catholic. While losing is never fun, Cedar Key can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 600th, while Saint Francis Catholic is ranked 258th).
Bronson suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Newberry at home and fell 71-18. Bronson was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-10.
Cedar Key has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Bronson, they bumped their record down to 0-11 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.
Cedar Key took their victory against Bronson when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 67-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cedar Key since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
