Baseball Game Preview: Mater Dei Monarchs vs. Orange Lutheran Lancers

For the second straight game, Mater Dei will face off against Orange Lutheran. The Monarchs will square off against the Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mater Dei has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Orange Lutheran will arrive with three straight wins.

Mater Dei's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Orange Lutheran hitters got past them. The Monarchs lost 16-0 to the Lancers on Tuesday.

For Orange Lutheran's part, Colt Peterson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Peterson has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Hanoian, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Brady Murrietta was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four runs, one double, and one RBI.

Orange Lutheran kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.

Mater Dei's loss dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Orange Lutheran, their record is now 20-5.
