Softball Recap: Ooltewah Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Ooltewah waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the Howard Tech Hustlin' Tigers. While the Owls didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The result came thanks to Hailey Schmidt's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Kaylin Leblanc was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmerson Reed, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Ooltewah was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Ooltewah's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Howard Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ooltewah will challenge Sale Creek at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Howard Tech, they will face off against Bradley Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
