Baseball Game Preview: Hartford Orioles vs. Watertown Goslings

The Hartford Orioles will face off against the Watertown Goslings at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hartford has five straight victories, Watertown has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Hartford's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out St. Joseph 2-0.

Carter Kutz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Kaiden Romens was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Watertown came up short against Milton on Saturday and fell 5-1.

Hartford pushed their record up to 18-6 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Watertown, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.

Hartford came out on top in a nail-biter against Watertown when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Orioles repeat their success, or do the Goslings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
