Baseball Preview: Excel Panthers vs. Satsuma Gators
Excel hasn't had much luck against Satsuma recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Excel Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Satsuma Gators at 6:00 p.m.
Excel is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Perry Central.
JP Norris made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Satsuma put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over Luverne.
Satsuma's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Crenshaw, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Crenshaw a new career-high. Another was KJ Austin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Excel's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Satsuma, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Excel has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game.
