Basketball Recap: Danny Valadez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Escondido over Valley Center

It was a proper cat-fight when Escondido took on Valley Center on Friday. The Escondido Cougars fell to the Valley Center Jaguars 49-43. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now lost six in a row.

Escondido lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Danny Valadez, who posted 17 points. Another player making a difference was Nathan James, who earned 12 points.

It was another big night for Lincoln Zetmeir, who went 9-for-17 en route to 24 points and three steals for Valley Center. That makes it 25 consecutive games in which Zetmeir has scored at least a third of Valley Center's points. Jonathan Teter was another key player, putting up five points and four steals.

Escondido's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Valley Center, their win bumped their record up to 8-17.

Escondido wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-48 defeat against San Pasqual on the 11th. As for Valley Center, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 91-58 loss against Fallbrook on the 11th.
