Softball Recap: Dunbar Comes Up Short

Dunbar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 21-6 to the Cypress Lake Panthers. The Tigers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Diana Cano-Mendez led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ziya Chambers, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Dunbar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Dunbar's record now sits at 1-9. As for Cypress Lake, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dunbar will host Island Coast at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cypress Lake, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Bonita Springs at 6:30 p.m. Bonita Springs has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.6 runs per game on average), something Cypress Lake will no doubt try to take advantage of.
