Volleyball Recap: Sherman Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Audrina Smith and Emma Russell

The Sherman Tide came up short against the Charleston Catholic Irish on Saturday and fell 2-0. The Tide have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Sherman's loss came despite strong showings from Emma Russell and Audrina Smith. Russell had 23 assists and five digs, while Smith had 15 digs. Russell has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more assists the last four times she's played.

Leading Charleston Catholic to victory were Ali Wilcox and Bree Gruse. Wilcox had nine digs and two aces, while Gruse had 25 assists and two aces. That's the most aces Gruse has posted over her last five matchups.

Sherman's loss dropped their record down to 16-7-1. As for Charleston Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 27-7-1.

Looking ahead, Sherman will challenge Van at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Charleston Catholic, they have already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Wayne on the 11th.
