Recap: Winter Haven Blue Devils vs. Orlando Christian Prep Warriors
The Winter Haven Blue Devils came tearing into Monday's match with 15 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 61-54 win over Orlando Christian Prep. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Winter Haven has scored all season.
Winter Haven's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamie Phillips jr led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Phillips jr is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cezanne Mosley, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds.
Winter Haven's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. As for Orlando Christian Prep, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-2.
Winter Haven will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Edgewater at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. One thing working in Edgewater's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 12 games. Orlando Christian Prep won't have much time to rest: their next game is against West Orange at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. West Orange will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Orlando Christian Prep is ranked tenth).
