Softball Preview: Twin River Titans vs. Malcolm Clippers

The Twin River Titans will head out on the road to take on the Malcolm Clippers on Saturday. Twin River is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.

Last Tuesday, Twin River got the win against Ord by a conclusive 18-10. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.

Marcie Spitz was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Twin River got a massive performance out of Emily Dohmen, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave Dohmen a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was JLee Van Driel, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Malcolm was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Nebraska City by a score of 5-4.

Twin River is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which somehow still isn't as good as their 23-6 record this season. As for Malcolm, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16.
