Where do Texas high school football stars rank nationally?

Texas perennially have some of the most well-known players nationally who are featured in high-flying offenses. We break down where the top players in Texas rank around the country in passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards and total touchdowns.


PASSING YARDS
Nick Gerber, Sr., Levelland, No. 2 in the nation
Gerber has thrown for 3,694 yards, averaging 410.4 yards per game. Those are eye-popping stats, but what is most impressive is his 54-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Grant Gunnell, So., St. Pius X (Houston), No. 3
Gunnell has racked up 3,518 yards, which is 439.8 yards per game. Just a sophomore, Gunnell has tossed 49 touchdowns in just eight games to lead his team to an undefeated record.

Court Walker, Sr., Trinity Christian (Addison), No. 5
Walker has 3,196 yards passing in just seven contests this season. His 456.6 yards per game is second best in the nation.



Jake Smith, So., Bishop Gorman (Tyler), No. 7
Walker has piled up 3,106 yards passing against a number of strong defenses. He threw for 693 yards and 10 touchdowns in a Week 2 91-71 victory over Ore City.

Brandon Steward, Jr., Pampa, No. 10
Steward has collected 3,066 yards through the air in the first nine games of the season. He has 35 touchdowns.


RUSHING YARDS
Deion Hankins, So., Parkland (El Paso), No. 15
Hankins has compiled 2,039 yards rushing and is averaging 254.9 yards per game. His high game this season is 387 yards on 20 carries in a Week 5 win.

Kennedy Brooks, Sr., Mansfield, No. 34
Brooks has 1,822 yards rushing this season, good for 260.3 yards per game. The past two weeks, he's racked up 624 yards on the ground.

Joshua Fields, Sr., Americas (El Paso), No. 39
Fields has been running wild this year, putting up 1,794 yards in the first eight games. He has two 400-plus-yard games, including a high of 464 in Week 4.

Dominic Williams, Sr., Independence (Frisco), No. 67
Williams has put up 1,676 yards despite having a 79-yard performance in an early-season game. He's bounced back with three games of 290 or more yards.



AJ Reed, Sr., Post, No. 88
Reed has 1,593 yards and has four games of 249 yards or more. That helps balance out where he was held under 100 yards on two occasions.


RECEIVING YARDS
Judah Bell, Sr., Bishop Gorman (Tyler), No. 2
Quarterback Jake Smith's top target has 1,592 yards and is averaging 199 yards per game. Bell is getting 21.2 yards per catch and has 12 touchdowns.

Waydale Jones, Sr., Jones (Beeville), No. 6
Jones has racked up 1,462 yards this season. He has 86 catches, 22 of them have gone for touchdowns. Jones has six games of three or more TDs.

Braxton Ashcraft, Jr., Robinson, No. 7
Ashcraft has been impressive, tallying 1,447 yards. The junior is leading the nation with a 206.7 yards per game average and 26 touchdowns.

Ceedee Lamb, Sr., Foster (Richmond), No. 12
Lamb has 59 receptions for 1,339 yards this year. He has 20 touchdown catches and 11 of those have come in the last three games.

Erik Ezukanma, Jr., Timber Creek (Fort Worth), No. 26
Ezukanma has put up 1,180 yards, but was limited to just 63 yards in his team's last game. He has 15 receiving touchdowns.




TOTAL TOUCHDOWNS
Payton McAlister, Sr., Decatur, No. 38
McAlister has 28 total touchdowns, 17 on the ground, 10 through the air and one on a punt return. He has three five-touchdown games this season.

Trey Sterling, Sr., Sunnyvale, No. 53
Sterling has scored 27 touchdowns. He has 22 rushing scores, four via catches and one on an interception. Sterling has one six-touchdown game so far this year.

Braxton Ashcraft, Jr., Robinson, No. 64
Ashcraft has 26 receiving scores this season. He has not caught less than two touchdowns in a game yet.

Mark Adams, Sr., New Deal, No. 74
Adams is a jack-of-all-trades player when it comes to scoring. He has 17 rushing touchdowns, four receiving, three on punt returns and one on a kickoff return.

Dominic Williams, Sr., Independence (Frisco), No. 81
Williams has racked up 25 touchdowns this year, 23 on the ground and two through the air. He had 15 combined in the last four games.
