Softball Preview: Walnut Wildcats vs. Hamilton Lions
Walnut is 0-3 against Hamilton since March of 2024 but things could change on Monday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Walnut Wildcats duke it out with Hamilton Lions at 6:30 p.m. Walnut is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Walnut will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Baldwyn on Friday. Walnut blew past Baldwyn 14-5. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won three in a row.
Maddie Wilburn made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Baylee Spight was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Josie Meeks was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Walnut kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Baldwyn only managed seven hits.
Meanwhile, Hamilton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against East Union, falling 12-2.
Hamilton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Walnut, their record is now 7-8.
