Softball Recap: Granite City Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Granite City can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cahokia Comanches a 15-0 shutout. The Warriors have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Comanches, too.

Emilee Saggio made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Saggio was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rachel Willaredt, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Carnahan, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Granite City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .828. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Granite City's win bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Cahokia, their loss was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Granite City will square off against Alton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors are facing the Redbirds at the right time seeing as the Redbirds are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cahokia, they will face off against Mt. Vernon at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
