Softball Recap: Hawthorne Wins Going Away Against Saint Francis Catholic

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Hawthorne and Saint Francis Catholic, and Hawthorne kept the tradition alive. The Hornets put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 20-5 win on Monday. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Kiya Lowe made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lowe was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Makenzie Swilley was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Holly Moore was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Hawthorne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Hawthorne back to even at 4-4-1. As for Saint Francis Catholic, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9-1.
