Baseball Game Preview: Boquet Valley Griffins vs. Schroon Lake Wildcats

The Boquet Valley Griffins are headed away from home for the first time to square off against the Schroon Lake Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Boquet Valley is coming into the matchup on a nine-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Boquet Valley came up short against Johnsburg Central on Wednesday, falling 20-1.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Schroon Lake challenged Crown Point on Wednesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 14-5 victory.

Daniel Pelkey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Schroon Lake: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Schroon Lake let Julian Porcaro and Jayce Emmert run wild. Porcaro got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Emmert got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Porcaro is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Camden Lamphear, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Schroon Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Schroon Lake's record is now 3-4. As for Boquet Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
