Basketball Recap: Immaculata-La Salle Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Immaculata-La Salle's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They blew past the Divine Savior Academy Sharks 43-18. That looming 43-18 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Royal Lions yet this season.

Immaculata-La Salle was led to victory by Ainoa Haliwa and Alexandra Gonzalez Casar. Haliwa went 6 for 9 on her way to 13 points, while Gonzalez Casar dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Gonzalez Casar has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 19 times she's played. Candy Cruz was another key player, putting up six points.

Immaculata-La Salle was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Divine Savior Academy only racked up four assists.

Despite the loss, Divine Savior Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Claudia Cardenas posted five points along with six boards and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Cardenas.

Immaculata-La Salle pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.3 points per game. As for Divine Savior Academy, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Immaculata-La Salle didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-12 win against Don Soffer Aventura on the 17th. Divine Savior Academy and Hebrew Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th.
