Basketball Recap: Westmont's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak at Home

It was a good run, but Westmont unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family by a score of 47-44. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sentinels of the 53-46 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Westmont still got an impressive performance from Payeton Pickens, who posted 18 points. Pickens continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Danielle Hoover was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elizabeth Beto led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Beto is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Maya Krutul, who went 9 for 22 on her way to 19 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Westmont's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-10. As for Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family, their record now sits at 11-4.

Westmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family has already played their next match (against Families of Faith Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
