Delavan-Darien is 0-8 against Whitewater since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Comets will head out on the road to challenge the Whippets at 5:00 p.m. Delavan-Darien has given up an average of 17.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Delavan-Darien came up short against South Beloit on Friday, falling 27-3. That's two games in a row now that the Comets have lost by exactly 24 runs.
Whitewater came out on top against Palmyra-Eagle on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Whippets put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Whippets' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Marianna Kubicz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Whitewater got a massive performance out of Izzy Lavertu, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Lavertu a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jennifer Gosh, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Whitewater was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Whitewater is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Delavan-Darien, their loss dropped their record down to 0-18.
Delavan-Darien suffered a grim 19-1 defeat to Whitewater in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
