Basketball Recap: Cartrail Jones' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ridgeway over Kirby

If Ridgeway was feeling good fresh off their 66-37 takedown of Hamilton last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ridgeway Roadrunners took a 55-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kirby Cougars. The Roadrunners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Several Roadrunners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cartrail Jones, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marjavis Chandler, who went 5 for 12 en route to 11 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Ridgeway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Carey McClain continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Kirby, putting up 27 points and five rebounds. McClain's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Aaron Hines was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards.

Ridgeway has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Kirby, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.

Ridgeway will face off against Melrose at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridgeway is facing Melrose at the right time seeing as Melrose is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Kirby, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 67-48 victory against Oakhaven on the 18th.
