Softball Recap: Pioneer Takes a Loss

After flying high against River City last Friday, Pioneer came back down to earth. The Patriots came up short against the Vanden Vikings on Wednesday, falling 8-1. The contest marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Marisa Bryson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Pioneer's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 11-4. As for Vanden, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pioneer will head out to challenge Sacramento at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.71 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Vanden, they will head out on the road to square off against Vacaville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season.
