Recap: Edison Eagles vs. Sapulpa Chieftains
The Edison Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 78-28 loss at the hands of Sapulpa. While losing is never fun, Edison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 345th, while Sapulpa is ranked 19th).
Sapulpa's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyla Heard, who scored 13 points along with eight assists and four steals. That's the first time this season that Heard posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Nylia Reid, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Edison bumped their record down to 1-7 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.1 points per game. As for Sapulpa, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Edison will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Tuttle on January 5th. Tuttle will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Sapulpa, they will head out on the road to face off against Fort Gibson on Friday. Fort Gibson is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
