Baseball Recap: Depew Drops Highest Score of Season Against Fredonia

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Depew). Everything went their way against the Fredonia Hillbillies on Monday as they made off with a 16-5 win. Considering the Wildcats have won three matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Lucas Spruch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Spruch was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jeff Nawojski, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Scibetta, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Depew was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Depew now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Fredonia, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Depew will square off against Lake Shore at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Fredonia, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Pioneer at 5:00 p.m. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Hillbillies surely won't give up without a fight.
