Baseball Game Preview: Oakwood Comets vs. St. Thomas More Sabers

Oakwood is a perfect 4-0 against St. Thomas More since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Comets will take on the Sabers at 4:30 p.m. Oakwood will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

On Thursday, Oakwood made easy work of Heritage and carried off a 16-6 victory. The win continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won three in a row.

Alex Wallace looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Chase Harrison was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Oakwood is undefeated when Harrison posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carsen Dudley, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.

Oakwood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage struck out 11 times.

St. Thomas More might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-8 to Salt Fork, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

St. Thomas More's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Oakwood, their record now sits at 5-6.

Oakwood was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Thomas More when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 14-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
