Basketball Recap: Madera South Takes a Loss

Madera South lost against Justin Garza back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Madera South Stallions were dealt a 74-38 loss at the hands of the Justin Garza Guardians. While losing is never fun, the Stallions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 758th, while the Guardians are ranked 334th).

Justin Garza got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Payton Powell out in front who went 7-for-9 en route to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. Powell is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cameron Greening, who posted 14 points along with seven boards and four steals.

Madera South has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-11 record this season. Justin Garza pushed their record up to 21-7 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home.

Madera South wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 85-58 win against Reedley on the 15th. As for Justin Garza, they have also already played their next game, a 61-41 victory against Templeton on the 15th.
