Softball Game Preview: Red Mountain Mountain Lions vs. Dobson Mustangs

Red Mountain is a perfect 10-0 against Dobson since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mountain Lions are taking a road trip to take on the Mustangs at 3:45 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Red Mountain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Queen Creek, who was ranked fifth at the time (Red Mountain was ranked 13th). The Mountain Lions lost 7-1 to the Bulldogs on Friday. The Mountain Lions' loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.

Payton Westra made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

Meanwhile, Dobson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They came up short against Westwood, falling 15-1.

Dobson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mersades Torres, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Red Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 12-4-1. As for Dobson, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.

Dobson's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Red Mountain has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Dobson, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Red Mountain keep running through batters, or will the Mustangs buck the trend?

Red Mountain took their win against Dobson in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 16-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountain Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
