Basketball Recap: Severance Takes a Loss

Severance was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 57-42 to the Thompson Valley Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-40 back in January.

Thompson Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Penny Gilbert, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Gilbert continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Avery Gibbs, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

Severance's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Thompson Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Severance will venture away from home to square off against Roosevelt at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Roosevelt's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups. As for Thompson Valley, they are taking a road trip to challenge Berthoud at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Thompson Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season.
