Baseball Recap: Seneca Comes Up Short

Seneca extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 8-20 in the process. They fell 4-0 to the St. Bede Bruins. The Fighting Irish were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bruins apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for St. Bede, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 22-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For St. Bede's part, not much got past Alan Spencer, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Seneca off the board. Spencer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on AJ Hermes, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Gus Burr also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

While Seneca had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
