Baseball Recap: Santa Fe Catholic Triumphs

It was close, but on Wednesday the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks sidestepped the Wheeling Wildcats for a 9-7 victory.

Mason Dicks tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Santa Fe Catholic let Jackson Waters and Brody Ray run wild. Waters went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles, while Ray went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Ray is becoming a predictor of Santa Fe Catholic's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Andres Montenegro also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Santa Fe Catholic now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Wheeling, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santa Fe Catholic will square off against Victory Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wheeling, they will face off against Brooks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
