Basketball Game Preview: Latta Vikings vs. East Clarendon Wolverines

Having just played yesterday, the Latta Vikings will get right back to it and host the East Clarendon Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Latta knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully East Clarendon likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, everything came up roses for Latta against Lake View as the team secured a 59-13 win. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 26 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, East Clarendon lost to Lake City on the road by a 52-37 margin on Monday.

Despite the loss, East Clarendon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cherish Cochran went 8 of 18 on her way to 21 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Cochran is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Payton Hanniford was another key player, putting up eight points and nine boards.

Latta pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.4 points per game. As for East Clarendon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Latta didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against East Clarendon in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 34-30 win. Does Latta have another victory up their sleeve, or will East Clarendon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
