Softball Game Preview: Mantachie Mustangs vs. Kossuth Aggies

The Mantachie Mustangs will face off against the Kossuth Aggies at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Mantachie has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with seven straight losses, while Kossuth will come in with five straight wins.

Mantachie lost 16-3 to Mooreville on Friday.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kossuth). They were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over Booneville on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Aggies, who have now won 12 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Chloe Clement spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Caliann Mitchell was incredible, firing off three home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 4-for-5. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Lewis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Kossuth lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Kossuth's victory bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Mantachie, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-16.
