La Vernia will head into Friday's matchup out to bounce back: they came back down to earth on Friday after soaring to a 20-point contest in their last game. They fell just short of Calhoun by a score of 22-20. The game marked the Bears' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

La Vernia might have lost, but man, Garza was a machine: he rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. He was just one part of a punishing run game: La Vernia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.

La Vernia wouldn't let Calhoun keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. La Vernia can thank Henry Dirks and Remington Rohde for forcing both of them. Another thorn in Calhoun's side was Dedric Williams, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bay City). They took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 73-7 win over Floresville. Winning may never get old, but the Blackcats sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
