Softball Recap: Orangeburg Prep Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Orangeburg Prep was forced to take a big loss against they on Tuesday, they got the better of them on Wednesday. They blew past the Calhoun Academy Cavaliers 13-1. Considering the Indians have won five games by more than 11 runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jane Walker Yonce was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Prestan Schurlknight was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Lauren BaLLew was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Orangeburg Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Orangeburg Prep pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Calhoun Academy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Orangeburg Prep beat the Cavaliers by a score of 8-4 on Thursday.
