Basketball Recap: Southside Christian Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jonah Smith and Ayden Coley

Southside Christian dropped to 5-7 on Friday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell 63-52 to the Scotland Christian Academy Saints. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 65-43 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

Southside Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ayden Coley, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and ten boards, and Jonah Smith, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Smith has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times he's played.

Scotland Christian Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Scotland Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Landon Wallace, who posted 32 points and five boards. With that strong performance, Wallace is now averaging an impressive 17.8 points per game. AJ Vallandingham was another key player, putting up 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks.

Southside Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-37 defeat against Greenville Christian Academy on the 15th. As for Scotland Christian Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 93-34 loss against Wilmington Christian Academy on the 15th.
