Basketball Game Preview: Whetstone Braves vs. Liberty Union Lions

The Whetstone Braves will head out on the road to challenge the Liberty Union Lions at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Whetstone is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Centennial on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Whetstone took a blow against Centennial, falling 76-28. The Braves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-22.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Liberty Union). They really took it to Millersport for the full four quarters, racking up an 80-23 win. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Lakers are ranked 669th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

This is the second loss in a row for Whetstone and nudges their season record down to 11-8. As for Liberty Union, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Whetstone was dealt a bruising 54-23 loss at the hands of Liberty Union in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Whetstone avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
