Gooding is 8-2 against Wendell since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Gooding will be playing in front of their home fans against Wendell at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gooding took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Fruitland. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Senators considering their one-run performance the game before.
Kaylee Silver and Jaelynn Patton were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Silver pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Patton pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Silver has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Silver scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Patton scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Silver snagged this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kodi Garza, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mady Morris, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Gooding was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Wendell came tearing into Saturday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bears 19-4.
Wendell got a massive performance out of Macie Bird, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyree Sears, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Wendell's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing seven strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.6 in the others. As for Gooding, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gooding hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like Wendell struggles in that department as they've averaged .415. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Gooding's way against Wendell when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Gooding made off with a 17-3 victory. Does Gooding have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wendell turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
