Baseball Recap: Fountain Inn Finds Playoff Glory Versus Greer

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Fountain Inn walked away with it. They won by a run and slipped past the Greer Yellow Jackets 4-3. Four seems to be a good number for the Fury as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Joel Irizarry made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned run off 11 hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with two runs.

Irizarry wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dee Suber, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with one double. Another was Lucas Cannon, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

Fountain Inn's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Greer, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.

As of now, neither Fountain Inn nor the Yellow Jackets have any future games scheduled.
