Fleming Island comes up short despite London Jenkins' dominant performance

The Fleming Island Golden Eagles pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Johns Country Day. Fleming Island has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Fleming Island still got an impressive performance from London Jenkins, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Jenkins is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amira Martin, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

St. Johns Country Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mary Kate Kent led the charge by scoring 27 points along with nine assists and six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Kent has scored at least a third of St. Johns Country Day's points. Another player making a difference was Kendall Proffitt, who scored 20 points along with two steals and two blocks.

Fleming Island's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for St. Johns Country Day, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fleming Island will challenge Riverside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverside is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for St. Johns Country Day, they will head out on the road to take on Munroe at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
