Baseball Recap: Richmond High School for the Arts Bulldogs vs. Clover Hill Cavaliers
Richmond High School for the Arts had lost 21 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-8 to make it 22. They came up short against the Clover Hill Cavaliers, falling 20-0. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cavaliers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
As for Clover Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. That looming 20-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.
For Clover Hill's part, Owen Tingen was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Tingen was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Carter Hine and Carter Burcume did most of the damage at the plate: Hine went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Burcume got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Burcume continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. James Nigriny also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richmond High School for the Arts will venture away from home to face off against Monacan at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Clover Hill, they will head out to square off against Thomas Dale at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
