Preview: Joshua Owls vs. Burleson Elks
Joshua is 0-9 against Burleson since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Joshua Owls will head out on the road to face off against the Burleson Elks at 7:00 p.m. Joshua comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Last Friday, Joshua had to suffer through a rough 42-13 loss at the hands of Seguin. While losing is never fun, Joshua can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 803rd, while Seguin is ranked 254th).
Meanwhile, after soaring to 36 points the game before, Burleson were a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They took a serious blow against Everman, falling 47-6. Burleson was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-6.
Joshua's defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-1 Wyatt and 11-2 Midlothian Heritage (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.1% over those games). Burleson has not been sharp this season, as they've lost six of their first seven matches, which leaves them at a 1-6 record this season.
Joshua might still be hurting after the 37-16 defeat they got from Burleson when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Joshua avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
