Basketball Recap: Opp Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jeshurun Crittenden and DJ Hines

Opp was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 53-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Straughn Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bobcats of the 57-47 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Opp's loss came despite strong showings from DJ Hines and Jeshurun Crittenden. Hines almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, while Crittenden went 6 for 10 on his way to 15 points along with five boards and four steals. Hines is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Conner Powers was another key player, putting up five points and six assists.

Even though they lost, Opp smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Straughn's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Noah Fowler, who went 5 of 7 en route to 17 points. That's the most points Fowler has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Clark Gay, who posted eight points and six boards.

Opp's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Straughn, their record is now 9-13.

Opp has already played their next contest, a 54-43 win against Geneva County on the 10th. As for Straughn, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-29 victory against Bullock County on the 13th.
