Softball Recap: Vinton County Comes Up Short

Vinton County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 7-4 to the Athens Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 4-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Vinton County's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Athens, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vinton County will face off against Jackson at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Athens, they will take on Meigs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Marauders have averaged an impressive 12.8 runs per game this season.
