Softball Recap: Westmont Takes a Loss

Westmont was the 8-0 winner over Monterey when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Westmont fell just short of Monterey by a score of 3-2 on Saturday.

Westmont got a good showing from Delaney Pound, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Pound has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Marina Li and Quinn Corbett did some serious damage despite the final result: Li scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Corbett scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was Corbett's first of the season.

Westmont now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Monterey, their win bumped their record up to 6-1-1.

Looking ahead, Westmont will welcome Leigh at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westmont is facing Leigh at the right time seeing as Leigh is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Monterey, they are taking a road trip to take on North Salinas at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Salinas' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Monterey's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
