Baseball Game Preview: Houlka Wildcats vs. Tupelo Christian Prep Eagles

For the second straight game, Houlka will face off against Tupelo Christian Prep. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Houlka has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 14.

Houlka heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Thursday. They lost 15-0 to Tupelo Christian Prep.

For Tupelo Christian Prep's part, Jack Decker made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave Decker a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Matthew McDaniel and Nate Cornelison did most of the damage at the plate: McDaniel went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple, while Cornelison went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave Cornelison a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Umfress, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Tupelo Christian Prep's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Houlka, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.
