Recap: Maple Mountain Golden Eagles vs. Payson Lions

The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles waltzed into Tuesday's contest with two straight wins but they left with three. They managed a 68-63 win over Payson. Given Maple Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Payson is ranked 68th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Maple Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matt Peterson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. The matchup was Peterson's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Vance Winters, who scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds.

Payson's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kamika Wesley, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Swasey, who scored 13 points along with 7 assists.

Maple Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Payson, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maple Mountain will take on Farmington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Farmington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday. As for Payson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Salem Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Salem Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
