Softball Game Preview: Narragansett Mariners vs. Middletown Islanders

The Narragansett Mariners will take on the Middletown Islanders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Narragansett is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: East Greenwich, who was ranked 12th at the time (Narragansett was ranked 24th). The Mariners came up short against the Avengers last Thursday, falling 15-1. The match marked the Mariners' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Cranston East hit Middletown with a seven-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Islanders lost 11-1 to the Thunderbolts. The Islanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Narragansett now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Middletown, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Narragansett took their victory against Middletown when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-5 score. Will the Mariners repeat their success, or do the Islanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
