Baseball Recap: Montgomery Academy Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Montgomery Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Highland Home Flying Squadron, sneaking past 7-6. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Flying Squadron recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Nathaniel Shaw tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Finley Haigler, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of William Marks, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

The victory got Montgomery Academy back to even at 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montgomery Academy will welcome Slidell at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Highland Home, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Goshen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
